Part 03 of 03 · Canon Void Series

Canon Void

The Collapse

The Canon is not a tool. It is an institution.

If Canon Void is the problem, then Canon is the solution.

The Collapse is when parallel realities resolve at once into one Canonical timeline.

The Canon rests on two fundamental truths.

1. The past is the past and we can't touch it. It's rich, messy, complicated and part of the company's record. We archive it.

2. Focus is everything. We're only ever going to touch the present and future.

Under the Canon, there is only one source of truth across all departments. The technical and business sides are speaking the same language and share one consolidated system.

As in most cases, it's all about language.

Years ago when I was studying Chinese in university, someone joked that the best way to learn Chinese is to find a Chinese boyfriend. They were probably right, because to truly embrace a language you need to use it not only for school or even business but in your day to day. In your everything.

And that is probably why the Hebrew language revival is one of the most successful cases of institutional language design in modern history. Compared to Welsh, Catalan, and even Turkey, it was the most brutal but efficient language adoption in history.

The Hebrew revival worked not because they established a sophisticated vocabulary with advanced tools. It worked because the Academy persisted to maintain it by a governing body with authority to ratify the Canon.

The Canon uses a similar mechanism.

The Canon is a full-time role reporting to the CEO, with cross-functional authority across operations, tech, and business. Above any single function. The Canon and their Council, cross-departmental SMEs with Finance permanently seated, are in charge of the new system.

The company sets a clear cutoff date (the Collapse), for example the next company QBR. After the Collapse, only Canonical definitions are enforced. No exceptions. Pre-Collapse data lives in the Archive: read-only, never used for forward decisions.

The system doesn't stay static. It constantly evolves. If the Canon decides ARR includes future commitments, the dashboard mirrors that. When the Canon updates the definition later, the dashboard updates with it.

Canon data conformance is tied to variable compensation. Every employee has an incentive component. The Canon system enforces strict compliance, starting from onboarding. Compensation rewards it. All-hands reinforces it. And every status meeting and offsite operates on it.

The same vocabulary discipline applies to training data. Models inherit the gaps in your shared language.

When the Canon holds, the offsite opens with strategy and ends with a playbook.
