The automatic habit is to refresh the Q1 numbers like it's a slot machine. Some call it 'monitoring.' The body knows it's gambling. That's not being in control. That's anxiety wearing a dashboard.
The Stoics built a framework for this 2,000 years ago. Epictetus called it The Dichotomy of Control. Before you react, split the world into two piles:
The Ocean = The Out of Control zone. Market sentiment, competitor moves, algorithm updates, the final outcome of a launch. You can influence them, but you cannot dictate them.
The Sailing = The In Control zone. This is your Operating System. It's how fast you're able to recover, refocus priorities, identify which metric actually matters and turn the noise into signals.
Good pirates know that trying to control the ocean is a death sentence for the crew. It's a waste of energy and a fast track to burnout. Enhancing the sailing skillset, however, is strategic. When your operating system is built for chaos, you don't just survive uncertainty. You start to enjoy it.
